7 The Optimist

The Gift of Joy & Adventure and the Need to Avoid Pain

7s Say: “I enjoy life. I am generally uninhibited and optimistic. I am busy and energetic. I seldom get bored if left to do what I want. I want to avoid boredom at all cost. I seem to let go of grievances and loss faster than most people I know. I like people and they usually like me. I am often at ease in groups. When people are unhappy, I usually try to get them to lighten up.”

Root Emotion: Fear disguised as excitement

Fun and the avoidance of pain is the aim of 7s. Their energy generates laughter and smiles whenever they speak. They seem to be in constant motion as they create fun activities for themselves and others. Another name for 7s is “epicure” as they love food, sex and have enlivened senses. Their attachment styles are more diffuse than other types. They do not need to feel close. They can have an adventure with almost anyone. They dislike doing the same thing twice and may carry a book, so they won’t be caught waiting in line with nothing to do. An unhealthy 7 will not attach, avoiding a real relationship through adventures. They will avoid health issues the same way until something very serious develops. Most 7s have a healthy appetite for anything of the senses. Their flightiness, or jumping from one activity to another, can appear superficial and their emotionality only on the surface is mistrusted by 4s, who want a deeper relationship. They radiate joy and cheerfulness. They are "mental" people, uncomfortable with unpleasant emotions.
